25TH ANNIVERSARY SCREENING: American Movie

  • DCTV's Firehouse 87 Lafayette Street New York, NY, 10013 United States (map)
  • Part of LESFF’s celebration of 1999 - the greatest year for movies, ever!

Acclaimed documentary filmmaker Chris Smith (100 Foot Wave, Tiger King, Fyre, Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond, Wham!)  made his directorial debut in 1999 with documentary cult-classic American Movie by documenting his friend, Mark Borchardt, an aspiring filmmaker from a working-class Wisconsin background. Despite having no cash and no experience, Mark is set on making a film and making it big (like most of us, right?). With help from his well-meaning but clueless friend Mike Shank, Mark fights the good fight of trying to make his dream come true, despite the odds. Strangely funny and inspiring, American Movie embodies the audacity of the indie filmmaking spirit.
